Yemen has coastal plains that back into large, plateaued mountains. These mountains slope into the inland desert that makes up most of the country.
Yemen's west coast is hot and humid and the mountains that form its back are mostly temperate, but have seasonal monsoons. Beyond the mountains, the desert of the Sinai Peninsula is hot and dry year round.
